Hi, my name is Nicolas. I love to read! The reason I love to read is because stories take me on adventures. I write about my self and other people. My stories will happen everywhere such as Boston and when I imagine. These are my stories, I hope you enjoy them!

Leatherback turtle and snapping turtle

The leatherback turtle and the snapping turtle both have humans for predators. They also both have shells on their back. However, the snapping turtle has legs but the leatherback turtle has flippers. If you want to learn more about these wonderful animals, read on.

The leatherback turtle and the snapping turtle have many similarities. Both turtles can swim. The leatherback turtle as well as the snapping turtle are endangered animals. They are both reptiles and they both lay eggs by digging a hole in sandy soil for their eggs. There are also differencies about them. The snapping turtle can snap (hence the name) but the leatherback turtle can't. The snapping turtle has legs and eats small amphibians and alges, while the leatherback turtle has flippers and eats jellyfish, seaweeds and fish. The leatherback turtle lives in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian ocean, as well as the Mediterranean Sea, but the snapping turtle lives in Canada and throughout the United States and in northern Mexico.

The snapping turtle's habitat is near lakes, ponds, small streams and rivers. On the other hand, the leatherback turtle's habitat is in warm open seas. There is a difference in size between these two turtles: the snapping turtle can weigh up to 220lb and be 26 inches long, while the leatherback turtle can reach up to 2,000lb in weigh and be 27 feet long.

Both turtles have their shells, but the leatherback turtle's shell is very hard and can't be broken: not even by a shark bite. The snapping turtle's defense is its snap and its neck is very flexible.

These are both very cool creatures!

First Allergic Reaction

Have you ever had an allergic reaction? I did once. If was scary, very scary. I ate some food that contained peanuts or tree nuts at dinner. After that, I felt fine and I went to bed. In bed, I started to feel kind of weird. Then I knew that something was wrong. First I felt hot. Next, I started to have difficulties breathing: I couldn't breath properly! Then I puffed up. My mom called the ambulance. The firefighters came first and started to help me breath by putting an oxygen mask on my mouth and nose. Then the police came and when the ambulance got to my house, I was put onto the bed. In the ambulance, I got a stuffed animal. Then I fainted. When I came back, I was in the hospital. I was on a platform and they brought me into a room. I fell asleep. When I woke up again, I was in bed at home. My mom told me that I was allergic to any type of nuts.
I don't want to have an allergic reaction again. Even if my mom says that a food or a snack doesn't have peanuts, I always check anyway to make sure.

New Year's Fun

Today was New Year Day and my mom planed to go see my cousins. It was really a lot of fun and here is how my day went.

My cousin's name is Noah and I went to see him at his family vacation home in Vernon NJ. The place is called Black Creek and has many townhouse building's next to each other. We got there and he opened his Christmas presents while I fixed one of his Legos. Then we went outside to play, because the weather was so nice and warm. You can go skiing in Vernon, but there was no snow on the ground, so we were able to play in the backyard. His sisters came outside too. Noah's sisters names are Eva and Alessia. We all played a game: the girls were at the fireplace and Noah and I were at the patio. While we played their dog Kevin was watching us from the windows.

We played for an hour then we all went inside. We all had a snack. My mom made Oreo cookies brownies and there were delicious. My parents and Noah's parents were talking so we went in the bedroom and watched some TV. The girls had balloons and they kept throwing them at us. I had to jump off their bed and get the balloons, because they were going up into the ceiling.

At six o'clock, my family and I left to go home. I really had fun with my cousin.

WHITE HALLOWEEN ANYONE?

My yard before the snowstorm
The weather is really getting strange. We had an earthquake, a hurricane, a tropical storm and a snowstorm in October!

Last Saturday, I came home after the coin drop for my soccer team, and I took a picture of my yard before the snow started to come down.  The yard was green with a lot of leaves that my dad did not have the time to rake. I wanted to chronicle this strange weather.

The snow started to fall down.

I could not believe that a snowstorm was coming, but, soon snowflakes were coming down and slowly slowly the yard became all white. I kept on taking pictures throughout the afternoon to see how much snow we were going to get. The snow was quite heavy and would stick everywhere. The handrail on my stairs was covered with snow.

The snow kept on coming down.

The morning after, I got a big surprise when I saw how much snow there was on the ground. We got probably 16 inches of heavy wet snow. The bushes in my yard were covered and bended because the snow was really very heavy. It was so heavy that branches broke off and fell on the wires. We even lost power for three days.

Look at the handrails on my stairs!!

We received 16 inches of snow before Halloween. Do you think we are going to get a lot of snow this winter? I sure hope so!

THE HARVEST CUP TOURNAMENT

I play travel soccer.  The name of my team is United. On Columbus day weekend, we played the Harvest Cup Tournament.  We played 5 games, won 4, and took 2nd place.

Our team played a total of 5 games in a row. Sean and Dylan were our goalies and they did an amazing job in protecting our net. Liam plays offense and he was the top scorer on our team. He was very tough on the field and was always running as fast as he could to get to the ball. During this tournament, I played offence and ran a lot. We have three girls in our team and they can be really tough and run hard.

We won 4 games out of 5. We won a game by scoring 6 goals. Some of the teams we played against were really good and the games were tough. Other teams were not so good, and the games were a little bit easier. There was a team who fought very physically against us and that was really a hard game. I got pushed by one of the other team player, but I fought back because I did not want to lose the ball.

We tried our hardest to win the championship but we didn't. Our opponents in the final had more energy and more stamina than us. They scored 5 times and we scored only 1. We won 2nd place. Our team had a great support group in our parents. There were loud, very loud and they were always cheering us on. The parents organized a tent with food and refreshments of us in between games, and all my teammates loves the cut oranges, especially Catherine: she could not get enough of them!!

I felt happy because we all got trophies and I got a picture of myself holding the 2nd place cup of the Harvest Cup Tournament, organized by the Washingtonville Soccer Club.
